Two passengers caught at the airport with 360 packets of cigarettes

Two passengers were caught at the Airport customs with 360 packs of cigarettes stuffed in their luggage. The individuals face fines and the cigarettes have been seized and could be confiscated, IPN reports with reference to the Customs Service.

The cigarettes were discovered by the joint team during specialized checks of passengers on avia flights to London and Dublin.

In the first case a 50-year-old non-resident was documented with 140 packets in his luggage, which the man did not declare.

In the second case, another non-resident, aged 52, concealed 220 packets of cigarettes in his luggage with the intention of transporting them illegally.

The cigarettes were seized and are liable to confiscation and the persons are liable to sanctions under the Contravention Code (from 100 to 500 conventional units).

The press officer of the Customs Service, Mihaela Dubinschi, told IPN that, according to the legal provisions, the permissible quantity that can be transported by one person across the customs border is 200 cigarettes.
