Two organizations authorized to collect copyright royalty

The National Association “Copyright” and the National Copyright Office were authorized to collect copyright royalty. The State Agency on Intellectuals Property (AGEPI) provided such information at the request of the Broadcasting Coordination Council ((BCC), IPN reports.

In a letter to the BCC, AGEPI director general Octavian Apostol says the holders of broadcast licenses and authorizations are obliged to sign license contracts with the organization whose products these will use. To ensure the royalties are collected correctly, each collective management organization must ensure access to information about the copyright owners that this represents.

Thus, the royalties for broadcasting phonograms and audiovisual products on radio stations and TV channels for 2014 will be collected by the National Copyright Office, while for 2015, 2016 and 2017 by the National Association “Copyright”.

The other collective management organizations – the National Association for the Protection of Intellectual Creations, the Association “Copyright and Related Rights” and the Association “ReproMold” – cannot collect royalties from users because the decisions to authorize these to collect royalties by the AGEPI were suspended by court or were abrogated.
