Two national road segments will be part of TEN-T network

The Soroca-Drochia-Costesti road segment, border with Romania, and the Anenii Noi-Causeni-Stefan Voda road segment, border with Ukraine, will be part of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The railway sections Chisinau-Cainari-Basarabeasca and Balti-Ocnita will also be included in the network. This is stipulated in a High-Level Memorandum of Understanding between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova on the indicative maps of the Trans-European Transport Network in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.

The document was signed online by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Andrei Spînu and Director General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport Magda Kopczynska. The agreement will help ensure coherence between the EU’s Trans-European Transport Network and Moldova’ss transport network and underlines the importance of connectivity and development of sustainable transport infrastructure between Moldova and the EU’s neighboring countries, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development said in a press release.

The Ministry noted that the inclusion of logistics routes in the TEN-T network will help attract European investments to modernize transport infrastructure and eliminate existing obstacles to carrying out logistics operations.

The indicative maps of the Trans-European Transport Network include European transport corridors to the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. Consequently, the North-Baltic Corridor was extended through Lviv and Kiev to Mariupol, the Baltic-Black-Sea-Aegean corridor was extended through Lviv, Chernivtsi to Odessa, while the Baltic-Adriatic and Rhine-Danube corridors will pass through Lviv.
