Two narcotics officers arrested

Two officers of the Anti-Drug Directorate have been arrested on influence peddling charges and placed in the National Anticorruption Center’s remand facility for 72 hours.

The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said the suspects were handcuffed this morning at their homes.

The suspects are accused of soliciting and receiving a 1,400 euros bribe from a man standing trial in a drug trafficking case. The officers allegedly promised to convince the prosecutor handling the case not to appeal a court decision that allowed the man to remain under house arrest while awaiting his verdict. Later, the officers allegedly promised the man that they could talk the prosecutor into dropping the charges altogether for a 5,600 euros fee.

The suspected officers now face fines from 3,000 to 4,000 conventional units or prison times from 2 to 6 years.
