Democrat MP Andrei Popov and Communist Iurie Muntean started to quarrel during the Parliament's sitting. They left the assembly hall and went to another room, where, according to witnesses, they had a heated argument and event got into a fight. The protagonists deny having fought, Info-prim Neo reports. “It wasn't a conflict of public interest,” said Andrei Popov. Iurie Muntean said the conflict originated during the electoral period. According to him, Andrei Popov sued him, accusing him of involvement in fraudulent schemes used to import meat and fish. “The debates between me and Mister Popov became a tradition. We discuss the government program, especially the economic development and the foreign economic activity,” said Iurie Muntean. He denied having struggled with Andrei Popov and asked the journalists not to confuse the parliamentary debates and the physical struggle. Ion Butmalai, of the PLDM, was a witness to the argument. He said he intervened when the two MPs were arguing angrily. “I approached, but they said that everything was just fine. I cannot say whether they fought. I intervened when things heated up,” he said. “What else can Mister Butmalai say to make the press and the electorate turn their eyes on him. It is a lie. We did not discuss heatedly. It just seemed strange to them that we left the hall two times,” Iurie Muntean said.
