Two more parties registered as runners in electoral race

The Central Election Commission has registered two more political parties as contenders in the parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019. These are the National Liberal Party, which has 40 candidates on the list in the national constituency, and the People’s Will Party with 30 candidates.

So far the CEC registered nine electoral competitors and is examining six more files. The deadline for submissions is January 24, 6pm.

In the same meeting, the Commission rejected the application to be registered as a participant in the national consultative referendum with the option “boycott” submitted by the Party “Our Home – Moldova”. The application was rejected because the electoral norms do not specify such an option. It was also determined that the application was filed by the party’s representative Alexandr Roshko, but this does not have such a power.

The CEC also approved the model of ballots. For the parliamentary elections in single-member constituencies, these will be violet in color. For the consultative referendum, there will be two ballots. The ballot with the question “Are you for the reduction in the number of MPs from 101 to 61?” will be pale yellow in color, while that with the question “Are you for the people to be able to recall, dismiss the MPs who do not appropriately fulfil their duties?” will be beige in color.

The Commission will decide how the ballots for the national constituency at the parliamentary elections will look like in another meeting.
