Two ministers negotiate energy cooperation agreement with Russia
The Minister of Economy and the Minister of Foreign Affairs will negotiate with Russia the intergovernmental Agreement on Cooperation in the Energy Sector, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Economy Minister Valeriu Lazar said that the draft agreement is the common product of a number of governmental agencies, including the National Energy Regulatory Agency.
“The provisions of this draft agreement are intended to cover all the aspects of interaction in this sector, including ensuring gas supply to Moldova in a manner that reflects Moldova's position on theses issue, as well as matters like the transit of Russian gas to the Balkans via Moldova. Further, the draft agreement covers aspects related to the production and export of electricity, and cooperation in the area of energy efficiency and production of energy from renewable sources”, said Lazar.
The draft agreement also reflects Moldova's vision on the over $3 billion debt owed to Gazprom, the bulk of which is owed by the Transnistrian region. The agreement's provisions are in conformity with the WTO standards, considering that both Moldova and Russia are members of this organization, said Lazar.
According to Vlad Filat, this agreement will play a great role in negotiating a new contract for gas supply between Moldovagaz and Gazprom.
