Two men die from flu

Two men died from the A (H1N1) flu virus since the start of March. They suffered simultaneously from other diseases. One of the men was aged 55 and was from the municipality of Cahul, while the second was 66-year-old and was from the municipality of Chisinau.

Contacted by IPN for details, Ștefan Gheorghiță, division head at the National Public Health Agency, said that none of the two men had been vaccinated against flu.

The man from Cahul was taken by an ambulance to the emergency admissions unit on February 19. He was diagnosed with bilateral pneumonia, but suffered also from other diseases. In several days, his state of health worsened and he was placed in intensive care, being connected to assisted ventilation. The lab tests confirmed the presence of the A(H1N1) virus. On March 2, the man died.

The man from Chisinau started to cough on March 4 and had fever. He went to see a doctor on March 8 and later his state worsened. He was admitted to the Municipal Hospital “Saint Trinity”, with the A (H1N1) virus being confirmed. He died on March 9.

Ștefan Gheorghiță said morbidity with flu and acute respiratory infections during March 2-8 declined all over the country. Specialists warn the population to be cautious and to immediately see a doctor when the first symptoms of disease appear. The sick persons should be isolated at home or hospitalized, if need be. The persons with a high risk of infection, such as pregnant women, persons suffering from cardiovascular diseases, chronic diseases of the respiratory system, diabetes mellitus and overweight, should avoid contact with ill persons.
