Two men, 61 and 64, died from monoxide poisoning in two separate incidents, the Civil Protection Service informed. The first case occurred in the village of Pelinei, Cahul district, and the second in Baccealia, Causeni. Both men were found dead in their homes by relatives.
A third man, 66, in Drochia survived a similar poisoning and was hospitalized. His condition is stable now.
In all three incidents, firefighters blame the improper use of stoves to be the cause. None of the cases resulted in a fire.
The Civil Protection Service is reminding the public that stoves and chimneys must be periodically cleaned and overheating should be avoided. Also, fires in stoves must be extinguished overnight and rooms should be ventilated during the day to avoid accumulation of the lethal gas.
