Two men arrested for swindling farmers

Two men, 26 and 29, were arrested for 30 days on suspicion of fraud. They convinced a number of farmers to advance them 7 million lei worth of rape seeds, sunflower seeds and wheat, but allegedly never planned on paying the farmers.

The Special Cases Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release that the duo founded a number of limited liability companies to carry out the scheme. They resold the goods advanced by the farmers and with the proceeds bought expensive things for their personal use.

The suspects face prison terms ranging from 8 to 15 years.

The case first surfaced on February 5, when a group of farmers held a press conference at IPN to complain about the fraud.
