Two killed on Chisinau roads on Monday
Two persons were killed and another two suffered various injuries in the traffic accidents that occurred on Monday, March 31, on Chisinau roads.
Road Safety Inspector of the Chisinau Traffic Police Ion Roscovanu has told Info-Prim Neo that a fatal car crash occurred at around 17:00 about 2 km far from the entrance to the suburban town of Budesti, on Chisinau-Odessa roadway.
A speeding BMW-520 car, driven by a 29-year-old man, hydroplaned on the rain-slicked roadway, ran off and struck a tree. The force of the impact was so great that the engine was ejected from the car, landing some 40 meters from the collision. The driver died instantly. A female passenger, resident of Budesti, was admitted to the intensive care section of the Emergency Hospital, while another female passenger escaped with soft tissue injuries. A rescue team was called to remove the victims from the wrecked car.
Shortly before midnight, a 58-year-old woman was lethally stricken on Mircea cel Batran Blvd by a Dacia taxi, driven by a 20-year-old man. By the time the ambulance arrived, the woman was past help. Preliminary investigations showed the victim was jaywalking.
Over the past day, other 20 minor accidents were recorded in Chisinau. Police officers fined 17 persons for drink driving, 55 for speeding, 15 pedestrians for jaywalking, and 81 persons for driving vehicles with tinted windows.
