Two houses in Andrusul de Sus village of Cahul district are in danger because of soil erosion. The local authorities offered the two families to move to apartments.
According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, there is an artificial accumulation pond near the two homes and it was recently established that the drainage channel was blocked. As a result, the geological process intensified. The rescuers and firefighters who came to the scene started to pump water out of the pond so as to reduce the level of water there. Yesterday, April 6, the works lasted for over ten hours and were resumed today.
Contacted by IPN, the mayor of the village Sorin Ciobanu said that only one house was in danger earlier, but the erosion process extended and one more house now risks collapsing. There are no other homes in the area. The two families were offered apartments in a building managed by the mayor’s office, but these refused to move.
The mayor stated that this is the only solution identified by the local authorities. They can also allocate money for repairing the two apartments. The erosion could be contained by removing the water from the pond and if it stops raining.
