Two citizens of Azerbaijan aged 25 and 30 are investigated for blackmailing and threatening in the Republic of Moldova a man aged 45 of Turkish origin during three months, IPN reports, quoting the General Police Inspectorate.
The suspects threatened the victim with a pistol of unknown model and dispossessed him of the Range Rover car. Later, by using violence and threatening him with death, on the pretext of an inexistent debt, they extorted 1 600 000 lei from the victim.
Following joint actions taken by officers of the Crime Investigation Division of the National Investigation Inspectorate, the General Prosecution Division, the Bureau for Migration and Asylum and specialized prosecutors, the suspects were identified. On April 16, one of the suspects was arrested and was remanded in custody for 30 days. He said he came to Moldova to sell merchandise in markets and restaurants.
The second suspect, who was earlier given a suspended sentence for murder attempt, was put on the wanted list. The two face 13 to 15 years in jail.
