Two flights to and from Istanbul were cancelled owing to the political events in Turkey. The July 16 schedule of the flights to Istanbul and Antalya from Chisinau hasn’t been yet modified.
Representatives of the airlines “Turkish Airlines” and “Air Moldova”, which operate flights to Turkey, said the flights scheduled for the evening of July 16 are not expected to be cancelled or delayed.
The representative of “Turkish Airlines” Alexandru Bobrov has told IPN that the passengers who had tickets to the cancelled 10:45am flight to Istanbul were transferred to the 9:40pm flight. If need be, the persons will be accommodated and served at the company’s expense.
The spokeswoman for the national carrier “Air Moldova” Natalia Rogovschi said they received no warning from the Istanbul Ataturk airport. Thus, the next flights will be operated as usual. The schedule of the flights to the Turkish coastline will also not be modified.
According to the foreign press, at least 60 people were killed in an attempted military coup in Turkey. On the night of July 16, tanks surrounded the Parliament Building. Gunfire and explosions were reported in the capital Ankara and in Istanbul. Crowds of people poured into the streets. The Turkish Ministry of Justice said over 700 rebels were arrested.
Prime Minister Pavel Filipa called an emergency meeting in connection with the situation in Turkey.
