The director of Saint Trinity Hospital was penalized disciplinarily while two doctors will be dismissed owing to the June 16 incident, when ten patients temporarily lost sight following the difficulties suffered after eye surgery. The information was made public by the Chisinau Health Division’s head Mihai Moldovanu, IPN reports.
A commission of the Health Division that worked for 10 days identified shortcomings in the organization and monitoring of the chemical disinfection of the equipment. Not all the stages required to process the tools used during the operations were carried out and the personnel involved in these procedures weren’t qualified.
Mihai Moldovanu said that an order was made to punish disciplinarily the hospital’s director. “The head of the surgery block and the epidemiologist will be fired. I warned the manager to impose fines also against other employees involved in this case,” he stated.
The head of the Health Division noted it is for the first time that such problems appear. There is now only one patient in the ward. The others were discharged after their state of health improved.
