Two people lost their lives in fires caused by the improper use of heating stoves, reports the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU). The tragedies occurred in the villages of Balceana, Hincesti district, and Cismichioi, Vulcanesti district, IPN reports.
In Balceana, a fire engulfed a residential house. By the time firefighters arrived, the room had been completely consumed by flames, and inside, the charred body of an 88-year-old woman was discovered. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started due to the overheating of the stove, which ignited nearby furniture.
In Cismichioi, a 70-year-old man was found deceased. Firefighters determined that the stove’s damper had been closed, leading to a deadly buildup of carbon monoxide in the room.
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations warns the public about the dangers of improper stove usage and advises against overloading heating systems. It recommends using appropriate combustible materials and keeping furniture at a safe distance from heat sources. Special attention should also be given to elderly individuals who may need assistance in safely operating heating systems.
Since the beginning of this year, IGSU has recorded 433 fires, resulting in 39 fatalities.
