Two controlled explosions carried out near levee
Two controlled explosions were performed yesterday afternoon near the opening in the levee built along the lake that is situated between Gotesti village of Cantemir and Chircani village of Cahul.
Emergencies Service spokeswoman Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo that the move was aimed at clearing the opening of the waste that stopped there. The opening was made earlier in order to allow the floodwaters recede from Ghioltosu village of Cantemir.
About 350 cubic meters of water have been pumped out of a number of flooded wells, gardens and cellars in Ungheni town.
The rescuers continue to monitor the bridges in Tiganca, Cantemir and Cantemir-Stoianovca and the quarry in Ghioltosu. About 50 meters of levee have been reinforced at the pumping station in Cantemir.
According to Liliana Puscasu, the Prut water level rose, by 5 centimeters, only in Branza village, Cahul. In other parts it fell by 2-9 centimeters. However, in northern Moldova the water level increased following the rain that fell in Ukraine. The releases from the Costesti-Stanca reservoir are now 180 cubic meters per second.
