Two passengers on the Chisinau-Istanbul flight tried to take euros, dollars and hryvnia in excess of the regulated amounts out of the country without declaring them. Border guards, in cooperation with customs officials, identified undeclared currency in the travelers' hand luggage, IPN reports.
In the first case, a 52-year-old non-resident man was caught with undeclared amounts of EUR 2 700, USD 11 740 and UAH 22 550.
Another passenger on the same flight, aged 55, tried to leave the country with financial means amounting to EUR 12 845, USD 1166 and UAH 351 560.
The currency was seized and the case will be investigated.
The authorities recall that declaring the currency when leaving the country is mandatory for amounts exceeding the equivalent of €10 000, and failure to do so is punishable by law.
