Two children killed, one seriously hurt during two days

Two children aged two and, respectively, four lost their lives last weekend, while a girl aged three was seriously hurt when she fell from the attic of a house. According to operational reports, in all the three cases there is a common factor: the incidents happened while the children were without the parents’ supervision.

According to the National Health Management Center, the children aged between 0 and 5 are very exposed to risks. In 2015, 49 children younger than five died owing to the traumas and poisonings that happened in domestic conditions, IPN reports.

In a news conference on June 13, the head of the General Police Inspectorate Alexandru Panzari made a call to the parents to be more watchful during the vacation. He warned the grownups to be attentive where they keep the weapons, drugs and other objects by which the children can hurt themselves.

On June 11, a two-year-old child fell from the ninth floor of an apartment building located in Chisinau. The preliminary information show the child was unsupervised when he fell.

The same day, a four-year-old girl from Leova town fell and drowned in a deep pit where there was mud. Alexandru Panzari said the child’s mother entered a shop to purchase food products and left the child outside. She tried to give the child first aid, but it was too late.

Another case happened in a village in Causeni district on June 12. A three-year-old girl fell from the attic of a house where she was playing together with other children. The girl suffered serious injuries and was admitted to the district hospital in a serious state.

The REPEMOL Project produced a set of video materials to prevent domestic and road accidents involving children, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Department for Emergencies of the Ministry of the Interior, the National Patrolling Inspectorate and the National Public Health Center to increase access to information about prevention. A film about how the children can be protected when falling can be viewed here.

The parents can find more information about how the children can be protected in different risk situations on www.parinti.md, which was launched by the REPEMOL Project “Regionalization of the pediatric emergency and intensive care services in Moldova”, which is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and is implemented by the Center for Health Policies and Services.
