Two children and their mother killed in fire in Straseni district
Two children aged 8 and 10 and their 29-year-old mother died in a fire last night. According to the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, the tragedy happened in Micauti village of Straseni district.
The Service’s press officer Liliana Puscasu has told Info-Prim Neo that the firefighters were called at about 2.00. The cause of fire is not yet known. The fire destroyed four rooms and 40% of the roof.
The owner of the house survived. He was admitted to the Burns Center of Chisinau municipality with second-degree burns of the respiratory system.
Experts are examining the place to establish the circumstances of the incident. They are considering three possible causes – a short circuit, a stove fault and a leakage from a gas cylinder.
Villagers said the firefighters came with delay and had not much water in the tanks. If they had arrived on time, the house could have been saved.
However, Liliana Puscasu said the firefighters reacted very quickly. The call was made at 2.09 and the three firefighting vehicles were on the scene at 2.33. The fire was extinguished by the rescuers and firefighters squad of Chisinau’s Rascani and Ciocana districts. The Straseni firefighters would have arrived much later.
Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, the mayor of Micauti Vasile Dolghii said the house destroyed by fire was divided in two. In the other part of the house, there lived the woman’s sister with her husband and two children. Their part of the house also burned and they are now on the street.
The mayor’s office will allocate money for burying the woman and her children. A request was made to the Straseni District Council to help restore the house that was 95% destroyed.
