Two new cases of measles, in a man aged 33 and a woman aged 21, were confirmed in Moldova, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection.
The man is a bus driver and works on the regular route Chisinau – Cluj (Romania). He received treatment at the infectious diseases clinical hospital “Toma Ciorba” and was discharged in a satisfactory way. The persons with whom he came in touch are not suspected of having the disease.
The young woman got infected after she lived in Vinita region of Ukraine for a period. When she returned, she felt sick and was also admitted to the “Toma Ciorba” hospital and hasn’t been yet discharged. Those who came into contact with her are under the supervision of doctors.
The authorities said the epidemic measles situation continues to remain unfavorable in the neighboring states. Almost 13,000 sick persons have been reported in Romania since the start of 2017. Of these, 52 died. In Ukraine, the number of infected persons is similar to that in Romania. More cases of measles were also reported in France, Georgia, Greece, Italy and Serbia.
Two cases of measles were reported in Moldova earlier, in a child aged seven from Rascani town and in a seven-month-old child from Glodeni.
The diseases can be prevented only by vaccination, at the ages of 12 months, 7 and 15 years. Those who weren’t vaccinated at these ages can go to the primary medical assistance institution to have a shot.
