A girl aged one from Bacioi commune of Chisinau municipality suffered serious injuries when a TV set fell on her. She was admitted to the hospital with a brain injury and multiple fractures, the vice director of the Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenko” Elena Sauga has told IPN.
According to the information possessed by the doctors, the TV set was on a nightstand. The girl wanted to take something and shook the nightstand. The TV set fell onto her. The parents were in the same room, but everything happened so quickly that they could not prevent the accident.
Elena Sauga said the girl will remain in the hospital for several weeks for treatment. Such cases happen often as the parents leave the children unsupervised and do not take steps to remove the dangers threatening their life and health.
A child aged ten months was crushed to death by a TV set this year. A similar case happened last year, when a child aged one year and two months died after the nightshade and the TV set fell onto him.
Specialists recommend installing only stable furniture in the house, which cannot be moved by children, and putting the objects that can hurt the kids in places that are inaccessible to them.
According to the National Heath Management Center, 2,900 children aged between 0 and 5 suffered injuries in Moldova last year. Sixty of them died.
