TV channels that violate children’s rights face fines of up to 50,000 lei

The TV channels that will broadcast materials violating children’s rights may be fined 10,000 to 50,000 lei, the chairman of the Broadcasting Coordination Council Marian Pocaznoi told the press after a fact-finding visit paid by Speaker Igor Corman to the Council, IPN reports.

“We will propose amendments as regards the punishments. The pecuniary penalties for TV channels now do not exceed 5,400 lei. In order to have more efficient leverage and to avoid cases of broadcast license withdrawal, the legislation needs to be amended,” stated Marian Pocaznoi.

In this connection, Head of Parliament Igor Corman said that a meeting with all the heads of the public authorities and parliamentary commissions will be staged in the second half of September to consider methods of efficient cooperation between the legislature and the authorities and the proposed legislative initiatives.
