TV channels are preferred media source, Independent Journalism Center study

The TV channels are the most used media source, being followed by social networking sites that are visited more often than the news or specialized sites. The radio stations are listened to rarer, mainly in the first half of the day, while newspapers are better known and more read by participants than the journals, shows the national mass media audience study commissioned by the Independent Journalism Center to Magenta Consulting.

The study results were presented in a news conference at IPN. The TV channels continue to be preferred by consumers of media products. 86% of the respondents said they watched TV the day prior to the interview. Among the most popular TV channels nationwide are Prime TV, Moldova 1 and Jurnal TV.

53% of the respondents said they use the Internet daily or several times a week. At the same time, 68% of these visit Facebook one or several times a week, while 66% visit Odnoklassniki at such a frequency. Instagram is visited by 27% of those polled.

Of all those surveyed, 33% said they listened to the radio the previous day. Radio Noroc, Radio Moldova and Radio Plai are the most popular radio stations.

21% of the respondents read newspapers more often than once a week, while 65% said they do not read newspapers at all. 10% of those interviewed said they regularly ready at least one national journal. The papers Komsomolskaya Pravda, Makler and Argumenty i Fakty and the journals VIP Magazin, Aquarelle and Agricultura Moldovei (Moldova’s Agriculture) are among the favorites.

As to news websites, the respondents said they visit the websites www.protv.md and www.jurnaltv.md more often than once a week. The two websites are the most popular ones in this media category.

Nadine Gogu, executive director of the Independent Journalism Center, said the data could be useful to the media guilt to see the profile of TV viewers, radio listeners and readers and in their activity. The study shows the tendency has been almost the same for many years.

The survey was carried out between October 17 and November 11 and covered a sample of 1,138 persons from all over Moldova. The margin of sampling error is +/- 2,5%. The full study is available at www.media-azi.md in the “Publications” division.
