Turkish-Moldovan Technical Cooperation influences standard of living in southern Moldova

A total of 2500 residents of Ceadar-Lunga town have recently gained access to drinking water thanks to a grant provided by Turkey. Under the financial support of this country most of the residents of ATU Gagauz Yeri have the possibility of watching and listening to radio and TV programs broadcasted by the Autonomy’s specialized Company, a press release issued by the Turkish Embassy in Chisinau reports. According to the source, the construction of complete drinking water distribution network of Comrat and a part of the drinking water network of Ceadar-Lunga were completed in 2001 due to the provided credit. In 2006, Turkey has provided another grant of USD 1.5 mln to finish the works. The works had been performed in May-November this year. Under this project a 2400 cu. m modern water purification plant that will meet the needs of the people of Ceadar-Lunga was built; wells were restored and improved; some parts of the network were rebuilt and current ones improved. A total number of 5350 residents of Ceadar-Lunga town will benefit from drinking water meeting European standards. A new project is being prepared to supply drinking and industrial water to all residents of the town. According to the same source, Ankara Government has supported a new project regarding the expanding of broadcast capabilities of the Gagauz Radio and TV, which costs 500,000 dollars. The latest project comprised the building of three communication towers, one being 100 meters high and the other two 70 meters, delivery of transmitter and other related equipment. As a result of these assistance activities, the coverage of Gagauz Radio and TV was achieved over 88% of the Gagauz population and radio exceeding 100%.
