Turkish man detained receiving €7000 from businessman

A Turkish national was detained while receiving 7000 euros from a businessman in the capital. According to the National Anti-Corruption Center, the money was allegedly taken to stop alleged investigative actions carried out by the police, IPN reports.

"The suspect allegedly told the whistleblower, who together with another Turkish citizen runs a company specializing in call-centre services, that the police would investigate certain aspects of their work. The suspect allegedly demanded €7,000 in order to induce the law enforcement authorities to take a favorable decision on the investigation", the NAC said.

As a result of the criminal investigation, the money transfer was documented, and the Turkish citizen was caught in the act and detained in a holding cell for 72 hours.

Law enforcement officials note that the person is presumed innocent until a final and irrevocable court decision.
