A Turkish company intends to invest in a fluvial transportation port in Taraclia. Vice-minister of economy and commerce, Viorel Melnic, told Info-Prim Neo that the investors come with serious intentions, having already signed a preliminary agreement with the Moldovan Government. According to Melnic, the following actions of the investors will be decided in short time, particular mention being made of opening a transportation alternative for the R. Moldova, given that the road infrastructure is currently unsatisfactory. On October 26, the Danube Logistics company had only finalized the construction of the petroleum terminal. The next stage is the construction of the freight and passenger terminals. The beginning of the activity of the petrol terminal was announced for the end of the year, following a complex launch and testing program. The Giurgiulesti Free International Port 1 (GFIP), as a separate territory with a special fiscal and customs regime, is considered instituted in July 2005. The customs regime and the passage regime, which ensure a rigid customs check, are functional from that moment. In less than a year, the GFIP registered 15 residents, including 11 companies which undertook construction and setting up works. Currently, the territory of the GFIP, with a total surface of 41.9 ha, is being intensely put in use. The value of the direct investments of the Danube Logistics company for the construction of the petrol terminal constituted approximately USD 30 million.
