Turkish citizen caught smuggling 20 kg of amber over Moldovan-Romanian border

A Turkish citizen who wanted to cross the Moldovan-Romanian border, through the Albița customs point, was detained with over 20 kilograms of jewelry that appear to be from amber. The man tried to cross the state border by driving a car registered in the Republic of Moldova.

The incident took place today, September 12, around 3 o'clock in the morning. Transparent yellow-brown beads, likely to be amber, were partially hidden in the personal luggage of the 45-year-old Turkish citizen, while the rest of the jewelry was worn on his body. The goods have been seized and will be sent to the laboratory for an evaluation.

The Turkish citizen was denied entry to Romania for a 5 year period.
