The Turkish Embassy in Chisinau and the Red Crescent Foundation of Turkey donated nearly four ton of beef to the placement and hosting centers of Chisinau and Gagauzia, in the context of the Kurban Bayram - Sacrifice Feast. Today, August 12, a batch of two ton of meat was unloaded in the yard of the Municipal Directorate for Children Right Protection, which, in turn, will distribute the meat to seven placement centers, IPN reports.
Gürol Sökmensüer, Turkish ambassador to Moldova, mentions that the donation aims to provide children with the necessary food for healthy growth and development. In the holiday’s context, Turkey helps up to 50 countries with meat. "There is a tradition that the richest man sacrifices an animal, and the meat is donated to the needy people," the diplomat said.
The meat will be distributed according to the number of children from five placement centers and from the street assistance service. Overall, about 140 children will benefit from this, Lucia Caciuc, interim Head of the municipal Department for Children Rights Protection, said. The meat will also reach the center for homeless in Haltei Street.
Silvia Colontai, Director of the Community House for Children at Risk social service, said that last year, the institution received 50 kg of beef, which had been used for cooking children’s meals during several months. "It was high quality meat and I prepared some dishes according to kids' wishes. We tried to cook Turkish dishes too,” Silvia Colontai said.
1750 kg of meat will reach the placement centers of Gagauzia.
