Tuition fees in vocational schools note yet raised

The Government Friday discussed the amendments to increase the tuition fees in secondary vocational education institutions, but did not take a final decision According to Minister of Education Leonid Bujor, the fees were reviewed in 2007, but since then the prices of the energy resources, water and other services has raised significantly, Info-Prim Neo reports. Leonid Bujor said the proposed increases vary between 500 lei and 2,000 lei, depending on the faculty, and will apply to a low number of students as only 15-20% of them study on contract basis and pay tuition. Another amendment concerns the dormitory rates for persons who are not students, but are allowed to live in dormitories with the Ministry of Education's consent. The rates will be adjusted to the rent and could amount to 3,600 lei a year. The proposed amendments will be discussed at a new meeting of the Government. “We will submit our arguments to the Ministry of Finance so that the rises become operable,” Leonid Bujor said.
