Tudor Popa, Andrei Ivantoc and Alexandru Lesco could become Chisinau’s honorary citizens

The former political prisoners of the Tiraspol separatist regime – Andrei Ivantoc, Tudor Popa and Alexandru Lesco, could become Chisinau’s honorary citizens, after being recently awarded with a similar distinction in Bucharest. This initiative was advanced by the capital mayor during this Monday’s City Hall meeting. The media in Chisinau wrote about Andrei Ivantoc and Tudor Popa, who were released in early June, that “nobody from the government of Moldova, for whom they fought and lost the best years of life, didn’t even call to ask how they are doing”. President of Romania Traian Basescu awarded the three personalities with the National Order “Romanian Star”. They were also ensured with a long stay in Romania for rehabilitation and recovery. All of the 4 members of the Ilascu group have Romanian citizenship, and as of 1 January 2007 – EU citizenship.
