Tudor Pantiru resigns as CC president and judge

Tudor Pantiru tendered his resignation from the posts of president and judge of the Constitutional Court (CC). In a press release, the Court said that from February 1 until a new president is elected, the post will be held on an interim basis by judge Aurel Baiesu.

Not long before the press release was issued, IPN asked the CC’s press service to confirm the reports about Tudor Pantiru’s resignation. “On the website of the Constitutional Court, which is the only source of official information concerning the press releases of the CC, such information was not posted,” said the representative of the press service.

A number of news websites reported that Mihai Poalelungi will also resign as president of the Supreme Court of Justice so that Tudor Pantiru from the Constitutional Court could be named instead of her.

Tudor Pantiru had served as a constitutional judge since February 2013 and as president of the Constitutional Court since May 2017, after the term in office of Alexandru Tanase expired.
