Tudor Deliu nominated PLDM’s candidate for November 1 elections

The former president of the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM) in 2018-2020, Tudor Deliu, was designated as the party’s candidate for President of the Republic of Moldova in the November 1 presidential elections. The decision was taken by the PLDM’s National Political Council as a result of consultations with local organizations on August 28, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the party.

The PLDM’s participation in this year’s presidential elections as a contender either separately or as part of an electoral bloc was decided by the PLDM’s National Political Council back on June 20. The decision was confirmed by the ninth Congress of the party on August 16. According to the PLDM, the decision to nominate the own candidate was taken several days after the Lib-Dems’ initiative to create an electoral bloc with the PAS and PPPDA was rejected.

The current president of the PLDM Vlad Filat said that Tudor Deliu has all the necessary capacities and meets all the conditions for skillfully exercising the duties of President of the Republic of Moldova.

Tudor Deliu, 64, is a philologist by profession. He is a master of constitutional and administrative law. He has a rich experience in public administration accumulated while serving as the mayor of Răzeni commune of Ialoveni district and as a professor at the Public Administration Academy. He sat on Parliament for nine years and holds the Labor Glory order. Tudor Deliu managed the PLDM since 2018 until the party’s ninth extraordinary Congress of August 16.
