U.S. President Donald Trump said he intends to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday and discuss ending the war in Ukraine, IPN reports.

"We want to see if we can bring that war to an end," Trump told U.S. journalists, quoted by Reuters.

"Maybe we can, maybe can’t, but I think we have a very good chance," the US president added.

The Kremlin said on Friday that Putin had sent Trump, through U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff, who was holding talks in Moscow, a message about his ceasefire plan.

The two presidents had a telephone conversation last week, after the Russian president accepted the proposal for a 30-fay ceasefire in Ukraine.
