Trucks with Romanian humanitarian aid arrive in Moldova

The trucks with the humanitarian aid provided by Romania to fight COVID-19 got to Chisinau in the afternoon of May 7. The trucks were met by supporters who appreciate Romania’s gesture at the Leuşeni customs post and on the Leuşeni-Chisinau highway. The handover ceremony was held in Telecentru quarter, IPN reports.

Minster of Health of Romania Nelu Tătaru said the humanitarian mission brought to Moldova aid that consists of medicines needed for treating infected persons at hospitals in Moldova. The aid includes 1,200 boxes of Platinium, 1,600 boxes of Kaletra, 500,000 ffp2 masks, 25,000 protective suits, 5,000 pairs of protective glasses, 5,000 visors, ten isolation containers, 40,000 liters of sanitary alcohol and 25,000 liters of biocide. “Beyond language, culture and history, we have a strategic partnership. Romania will be near the Republic of Moldova,” stated the minister.

Attending the event, Prime Minister Ion Chicu thanked the Romanian people for their brotherly effort. “We highly appreciate the generosity of our brothers and realize well that the value of this assistance is much higher as this is offered at a time when we all face difficulties. The Romanian Government’s gesture shows that the pandemic that struck the whole world for us is an opportunity to strength the fraternal relations between the banks of the Prut,” noted the official.

Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu said the assistance comes in moments that are challenging for the Moldovan health system that has to fight COVID-19, which is a common enemy for Moldova and for Romania.

President Igor Dodon attended the ceremony to donate a consignment of medical equipment and medicines of Romania’s humanitarian aid to the Emergency Medicine Institute. He noted that Romania’s gesture is indeed brotherly. “A friend in need is a friend indeed,” he said, thanking his Romanian counterpart. He also said that Romania’s assistance is the most substantial one so far. “What is happening in Chisinau today, and we make history, is in line with the European spirit in these two states”.

Last week, Romania sent a team of doctors and nurses, including of the Ministry of National Defense, to Moldova to assist Moldovan health professionals at strategic medical institutions in their efforts to contain the pandemic.
