Four truck drivers were arrested by the police on suspicion that they smuggled large quantities of drugs into Moldova. The men aged between 30 and 55 are from Chisinau and Ialoveni, IPN reports.
According to the General Police Inspectorate, an investigator under cover was infiltrated in the documentation process. It was determined that the group members brought drugs from European states and sold them later in Moldova.
After several months of investigations, searches were carried out at the men’s homes and in their vehicles. There were found and seized Ecstasy pills that cost about 1 million lei on the black market.
Two of the suspects were arrested in December. The organizer of the criminal scheme was remanded in custody; another suspect was placed under judicial control, while two persons are investigated as suspects outside remand.
The persons face up to 15 years behind bars.
