A new trolleybus route, No. 38, which goes through Albișoara St and connects the districts of Buiucani and Botanica, was launched in Chisinau today. Ten new battery-powered, last-generation trolleybuses will run on this route. The trolleybuses were made in Belarus and assembled in Chisinau. They will run at an interval of 15 minutes during rush hour, IPN reports, quoting the Chisinau City Hall.
Chisinau Electric Transport Company chief Dorin Chernyi said the trolleybuses put on route No. 38 can run autonomously on a distance of up to 20 km and can this way serve the areas where there are no contact lines. “The itinerary was chosen by citizens through the City Hall’s website and through social networking sites from among a number of proposed variants. The local authorities only decided to extend slightly the route so as to make sure Botanica district is provided with large-capacity public transport,” he stated.
The trolleybuses are outfitted with air conditioning and internal and external video surveillance systems, USB sockets for charging electronic devices, LED-based lighting, retractable platform to ensure access for persons in wheelchairs, etc.
