The trolleybus with electric batteries that was assembled by the Chisinau Electric Transport Company will soon run on route. This will be presented in an event that will be attended by the Moldovan Prime Minister and his Belarusian counterpart, IPN reports.
In the September 26 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, Chisinau Electric Transport Company director Gheorghe Morgoci said the event was scheduled for October 3. The official delegation will make a trip by the new trolleybus from the Company to the Government.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said this project is one of a kind in a city in the former Soviet Union and also in Eastern Europe. This model of trolleybus, assembled in Chisinau, is twice cheaper than in the neighboring states.
At the start of last June, the Chisinau Electric Transport Company presented the new model of trolleybus outfitted with electric batteries that can cover up to 50 km without being connected to the power networks. It was then considered the possibility of extending the trolleybus route up to the Chisinau airport. Calculations showed the trolleybuses powered by electric batteries are three times more economical than the buses powered by a diesel engine.
