TRM president accuses AMN of interference in Supervisory Board’s and Company’s activity
Valentin Todercan, president of Teleradio-Moldova Company (TRM), is concerned about the interference of certain political forces in public broadcasting, says a statement issued by the Monitoring, Public and International Relations Division of TRM, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The TRM president refers to the statements made by the leader of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) Serafim Urecheanu, who said that the lawsuit filed by Valentin Todercan against two members of the Supervisory Board is the result of the fact that the new composition of the supervisory body tolerated the deviations within the institution for too long. According to the AMN leader, the fact that a member of the managing personnel took legal action against the representatives of the hierarchically superior body over their opinions shows that TRM is beyond the law.
Valentin Todercan accuses AMN of defiantly attempting to interfere in the activity of the Supervisory Board and of the administration of TRM. He says that he did not appeal against the opinions or the study of the two Supervisory Board members Igor Munteanu and Veaceslav Ionita. He appealed to the court because he considers that the information in this study is untrue, while the materials broadcast by the radio station “Vocea Basarabiei” (“Bessarabia’s Voice”) are defamatory. “This is why I demand that my personal dignity and the reputation of our institution are protected. The action we took is within the law and not beyond it as S. Urechean said,” the statement of the TRM president runs.
Todercan considers the accusations that he neglects the Supervisory Board levelled by the AMN leader against him as groundless. He stressed that the Company’s conception of reformation and the set of normative documents designed to support this process were adopted by a majority vote (6) of the Supervisory Board. Certain progress in implementing the reform was already noted by 6 of the 8 Board members and this fact will be included in the annual report presented to the Parliament. “If the two Supervisory Board members did not support this conception, did not propose an alterative version and do not want to see changes in the TRM, the backing offered by S. Urecheanu and his party to them proves that actions aimed at torpedoing the changes in the public broadcaster are taken in cooperation,” the TRM president said.
Valentin Todercan appeals to the Broadcasting Coordination Council and the Supervisory Board to take attitude towards the attempts of AMN to control the activity of TRM through the two Board members and to combat any of such interference. He says he has the right to ask the Council of Europe, OSCE, the EU and other international organisations that monitor the transformation of the Company into a public broadcaster to assess this case in accordance with the accepted democratic norms.
TRM and Valentin Todercan took legal action against Veaceslav Ionita and Igor Munteanu as well as against the Institute for Development and Social Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul” and the radio station “Vocea Basarabiei”. The Supervisory Board members were sued for co-authoring a study titled “Teleradio-Absurdistan or stolen reform in the public company”, while IDIS “Viitorul” and “Vocea Basarabiei” for publishing and broadcasting it. The plaintiffs demand 2.6 million lei for damages.
