The national public broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” (TRM) extended the free airtime for election contenders. “The Election Code envisions only 5 minutes on television and 10 minutes on the radio. We offered 20 minutes to every election contender on television and 45 on the radio,” the company’s president Constantin Marin said in a news conference, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The airtime is provided in prime time as the information about the platforms of the election runners should reach the voters in the best way possible so that they understand who and what offers and what they promise and make a free choice, said Constantin Marin. The chairman of the TRM Supervisory Board Eugeniu Rybka stated for Info-Prim Neo that the length of debates was extended from 60 to 80 minutes on television and to 90 minutes on the radio. Five debate programs of one hour for representatives of the young wings of the parties running in elections will be held for the first time at TRM. “There will be three rounds of debates – two for election contenders and the third for the young wind,” Eugeniu Rybka said. The first round of debates will take place between November 1 and 14. The competitors will be invited to them in the order in which they were registered by the Central Election Commission, first the parties and then the independent candidates. The debates will be broadcast between 21.40 and 23.00 and will include by four election contenders. The second round will take place between November 15 and 26 and will involve independents invited in alphabetical order (by name). Then there will be invited parties according to the rising results achieved in the last elections of 2009. The last round will be held during November 10-19 and will be broadcast between 19.45 and 20.35. The debates will be followed by a citizen education program of ten minutes themed “Your Vote”. The debates on November 1will be opened by the National Liberal Party, the Democratic Party, the Liberal Party, and the United Moldova Party.
