Trees to be planted on 15 ha in Cahul district

More than 15 hectares of eroded land in Cahul district will be planted with acacia, willow and poplar saplings. The planting of trees will solve the problems of landslide and wood for heating for the next 20 years, “Moldsilva” Forestry Agency has said.

Viorica Caciuc, head of the Agency’s press service, has told IPN that a forest existed earlier in the place where trees will be planted. “Moldsilva” specialists selected species of trees resistant to the weather conditions typical of the southern part of the country, especially the long aridness periods.

The acacia trees will start to be trimmed in three years. The quantity of wood will grow from year to year, with the acacia wood areas being used for over 20 years.

The tree planting activities form part of the project “A new life for the Prut River”. The planting works, including all the stages of the technical works, cost over €15,000.
