Treatment of TB-infected persons to be monitored by mobile phone

More than 3,000 persons suffering from tuberculosis, who receive treatment in ambulatory conditions, will receive mobile phones and/or cards for the mobile phone. Through the agency of the mobile phone, they will be helped to strictly follow the treatment rules. The action forms part of the program “mSupervision of the Treatment for TB”, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Center for Health Policies and Analysis, the TB-infected persons will receive messages on the mobile phone at exact hours, informing them to take the medicines. The patients will be phoned by the medical personnel once or three times a week, depending on the treatment regime they follow. About 60 doctors and nurses from all over the country were trained how to provide assistance within the project.

The program will cover TB-infected persons who receive treatment for tuberculosis in ambulatory conditions and patients with TB who are registered in the SIME TB information system and will agree to benefit from the services of the mHealth program.

The program “mSupervision of the Treatment for TB” is implemented by the Health Ministry, the Phtyziopulmonology Institute “Chiril Draganiuc”, the National Health Management Center, the Health and Medical-Social Assistance Center, the Center for Health Policies and Analyses, and a mobile phone carrier.
