Travel restrictions in Transnistrian region partially lifted

The inhabitants of Varnița, Copanca, Molovata Nouă, Cocieri, Pohrebea, Doroțcaia, Coșnița and Pârâta and the citizens who have a residence visa in these village can travel freely only through several checkpoints set up on the administrative line on the left side of the Nistru River, IPN reports, quoting the Reintegration Policies Bureau.

The agreement on the free movement of the residents of these villages was communicated to Chisinau through a letter signed by the representative for political problems on behalf of Tiraspol. These citizens can travel through the Bender-Varnița, Zagornoie-Copanca, Dubăsari-Doroțcaia, Dubăsari-Coșnița, and Dubăsari-Cocieri checkpoints.

The free movement of the inhabitants of the aforementioned villages and the access to the farmland that these own are stipulated in the Berlin Plus package. The official Chisinau considers these commitments made by Tiraspol haven’t been fully respected and the behavior shown by Tiraspol during the state of emergency declared in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic worsened the situation of the people living in these villages.

Also, for the other Moldovan citizens, the access to the left bank of the Nistru continues to be banned. The official Chisinau’s request to allow visiting relatives and close people on the Sunday of the Dead was rejected by the Transnistrian administration.

The self-isolation of the Transnistrian region was extended until June 15, 2020.
