Interurban passengers’ transportation runs the risk of being interrupted for an unlimited period of time, in case the Government refuses to revise current tariffs. Passengers’ Transportation organizations announced that they will address a letter to their General Assembly on 13 May, where the situation created in interurban transport will be discussed, as result prices’ increase for petroleum goods on the internal market. The chairman of the International Transporters Association of Moldova, Vladimir Florea, stated that increasing prices for petroleum products seriously altered the passengers’ transportation-related business, and in case the tariffs are not revised in light of new prices for fuels all the transportation is due to suspension. According to him, the share of fuel costs represents 65-70% of the total revenues, level that does not allow the passengers’ transporters to continue their business. In his opinion, the tariff for 1 kilometer has to be increased from 0.24 lei to 0.56 lei. It means that the average ticket’s price for interurban passengers’ transport, evaluated now to 20-25 lei, could get to 40-50 lei. Previously, the executive manager of Transporters and Road Workers Union, Eugen Datco, announced that the Government delays the approval of Methodology on Calculating Transportation Tariffs, which was issued in May 2005, and the Ministry of Transport and Road Management refuses to approve tariff increase because of methodology lack. Transporters of Moldova urge the Tripartite Commission Government- Trade Unions-Employers to intervene in order to increase transport tariffs. Transporters’ representatives is aware of the fact that the population does not have necessary incomes to fully pay for provided services, that is why only partial increase is required, in order to maintain transportation activity.
