Solutions for strengthening the transport infrastructure between the Republic of Moldova and Romania were discussed in Bucharest. Representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development from Chisinau and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure from Romania addressed the transition to sustainable rail transport and the implementation of measures to facilitate the shift of freight transport from non-ecological modes to railway transport, IPN reports.
The State Secretary for Transport, Mircea Pascaluta, together with his Romanian counterpart, Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu, also discussed optimizing costs and freight rail transport routes. Current tariffs were assessed, and proposals were presented for their optimization at the cross-border level to encourage the use of railway infrastructure between Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
Another topic addressed was the coordinated control at the Ungheni border crossing points, including the Ungheni (MD) – Ungheni (RO) highway bridge, with a focus on identifying feasible solutions to accelerate its operationalization. Discussions also covered the current status of coordinated control at the Leova-Bumbata and Giurgiulesti-Galati borders, as well as the initiation of a General Agreement for coordinated control.
