More than half of the products exported by the Transnistrian region in the first ten months of this year were delivered to the right bank of the Nistru River. IPN's analysis of fresh data provided by Tiraspol confirms a steady increase in sales to the right bank and the European Union for two consecutive years.
Producers in the region sold goods to the value of almost US$333 million to the right bank of the Nistru River from January to October 2024. In its annual reports, Tiraspol never specifies the type of goods. As usual, the right bank of the Nistru bought electricity from the Transnistrian region.
In the last five years, from 2019 until now, sales of products from Tiraspol to Chisinau grew by more than 15% or US$75 million.
After the right bank of the Nistru, the European Union is the second destination in terms of volumes for the Transnistrian region's exports. It accounted for 37.4% of the total sales made in the first ten months of this year.
By October 2024, the Transnistrian region exported goods to the value of US$232 million to the EU. More than half of this amount (US$135 million) represented exports to Romania, while 12% were destined for Poland, 11% for Bulgaria, and 4.8% each went to the Czech Republic and Germany.
Steel bars produced by the Rybnitsa Metallurgical Plant continue to dominate the Transnistrian exports to the EU, constituting the largest share, experts say.
On the other hand, the Transnistrian exports to the Russian market decreased in 2024, totaling only US$18 million in the first ten months of the year, which represents only 3% of the region's total exports. For comparison, these exports in 2019 constituted 13%.
