Transnistrians unilaterally increase number of border guard posts

The delegation of Moldova to the Joint Control Commission (JCC) is concerned about the worsening of the situation in Copanca village of Causeni district, where the Transnistrian border guard posts erect impediments, hindering the residents from moving freely. In a statement, the Moldovan delegation calls on the mediators and guarantors to intervene as the number of mobile Transnistrian border guard posts increases, even if a JCC decision bans the military presence in the security zone, Info-Prim Neo reports. “Regretfully, the delegation of Transnistria to the JCC ignores the agreement and deploys military contingents in some settlements,” says the statement. The signatories say a mobile post consisting of five border guards of Transnistrian military subdivisions is more often seen in Copanca and Cremenciug villages. “The Transnistrian side admits that it violates the agreement and interprets certain documents as it wants so as to allow border guards in the security zone. They say the presence of these guards must not be coordinated with the delegations of the JCC,” says the Moldovan delegation. “We call on the Transnistrian delegation to the Joint Control Commission to stop misleading the representatives of the guarantor countries, the OSCE mission and civil society when they speak about fair and transparent actions, as they discredit the other side.” The Moldovan delegation makes reference to the joint statement of the Russian and Ukrainian Presidents of May 17, which recommends refraining from unilateral actions so as not to worsen the situation and prejudice the prospects of resolving the dispute.
