Transnistrians remained without gas. Tiraspoltransgaz makes first announcement

The company Tiraspoltransgaz made the first announcement on the morning of January 1 about the first locations left without natural gas, IPN reports, with reference to the press in Tiraspol.

After Gazprom stopped supplying gas to the Transnistrian region, the authorities started to turn off the electricity on the left bank of the Nistru. Tiraspoltransgaz informed that ground houses, multi-story blocks with autonomous heating systems and boiler rooms no longer receive gas as from midnight.

However, the residents of apartment buildings still can prepare food due to the amount of gas that remained in the networks, but only until the pressure reaches the critical level, said the supplier.

The population is advised not to resort to individual measures to connect domestic systems to any gas source and to turn off all taps for safety, informed the quoted source.

Gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region were stopped on Wednesday by Gazprom, which invoked the non-payment of a debt of US$709 million - an amount that is not confirmed by Chisinau. The administration of the Republic of Moldova accused the Kremlin of energy blackmail.

Until December 31, 2024, the Transnistrian region daily received 5.7 million cubic meters of Russian gas and these volumes satisfied the consumption needs of the inhabitants of the region. The gas was also used to produce electricity for both banks of the Nistru.
