The local Transnistrian authorities do not take part in contests to apply for financing from the state budget of Moldova for projects to build confidence between the two banks of the Nistru River. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov considers this is due to the unwillingness of the Transnistrian administration, IPN reports.
The official has told the bulletin “Transnistrian Dialogues”, which is produced within the EU project of assistance for the Reintegration Office, that the sum allocated by the state for confidence-building measures in 2013 and 2014 increased to 15 million lei. There is also the money allocated by foreign partners. The EU and UNDP provided €13 million for both banks of the Nistru. Priority is given to projects implemented in concert.
Eugen Carpov admitted that the 15 million lei allocated from the state budget is insufficient for increasing confidence between the two banks of the river. However, progress has been made compared with the previous period. “We would like a sum of 20-25 million lei next year. I think the Government is ready to identify resources even if the economic situation now is difficult,” he stated.
The Deputy Prime Minister also said that four years ago, the state budget of Moldova didn’t contain funds for the Transnistrian settlement. The first 10 million lei was allocated in 2010. But, for different reasons, the money wasn’t spent that year. Projects with the money offered by the Moldovan authorities for reintegration started to be implemented in 2011.
