Transnistrian region crops affected by drought and burned by heat

Farmers in the Transnistrian region calculate the losses caused by this spring’s drought, which negatively affected the corn and sun-flower crops, reports Info-Prim Neo quoting an official website of the Transnistrian administration. According to a report from the regional administration, the poor yields are a result of the drought in the spring and this summer’s excessive heat, both having affected the forming of pollen and the pollination itself. Beside the drought, the sun-flower plantations were affected by the burning sun; thus, the plants did not manage to develop their heads, and by extension, their seeds. The wheat and barley yields, which were also affected by the drought, are very poor. Farmers from the left bank of the Nistru have managed to get only 0.9 tonnes of wheat and 0.5 tonnes of barley per hectare.
